Cops ID shooting victim

Vancouver police identified Cliff Suomphonh Thammavongsa on Thursday as the city’s second homicide victim of the year.

The 22-year-old was killed by gunfire on Wednesday around 1 p.m. in the 1500 block of East 10th Avenue while driving a car. He died in hospital an hour later.

The victim’s family, in mourning at their Abbotsford home, declined to comment on his passing.

Thammavongsa had no run-ins with police and nothing of apparent interest was found in his vehicle, Const. Lindsey Houghton said.

Police have no suspects in custody. No information was released of how the victim was shot in a moving car, his affiliations or what he was doing in the neighbourhood at that time.

Investigators, however, believe the man was the victim of a targeted hit.

Police canvassed the surrounding area for surveillance footage and other clues on Thursday.
